Introduction

BIS(Bureau ofIndial Standards), Headquartered in New Delhi, it is the Indian National Standards Institution. BIS develops and publishes Indian standards, implements conformity assessment programs, accredits and operates conformity assessment laboratories, implements logos, empowers consumers, conducts quality assurance capacity building programs, and represents the country in ISO and IEC.

The Indian Standards Bureau is under the jurisdiction of the Indian Ministry of Commerce. Products included in the BIS mandatory certification scope cannot enter the Indian market without obtaining the ISI Mark.

BIS regulated product categories: cement, household appliances, batteries, food&related products, hydraulic stoves, automotive parts (tires), cylinders, valves, regulators, medical equipment, steel products, transformers, motors, capacitors, chemicals, fertilizers, polymers and textiles, kitchen equipment, household water heaters, air conditioners, plugs and sockets, gas stoves, glass, pressure cookers, wires, rubber hoses, aluminum pots, non electric toys and electric toys, woven bags, butterfly valves, bicycle reflectors, feed, paper, wheels, water treatment systems, etc.
