Smartway certification
Definition
SmartWay certification is a certification led by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) aimed at promoting low fuel consumption tires across the United States to improve air quality. Currently, Smartway certification is mandatory only in California. Smartway certification is applicable to guide tires, drive tires, and trailer tires used in heavy-duty trucks with a maximum total mass greater than or equal to 15 tons. The testing standards used for Smartway certification can be SAE J 1269 or ISO 28580, and manufacturers can choose between the two.
Certification precautions
Regarding the SmartWay certification application, there are several points to note: (1) The number of certificates is determined according to the pattern. (2) The benchmark tire (295/75R22.5 14PR) must be tested. (3) If the same pattern has multiple depths, the maximum depth model should be tested. After the certification is completed, the following certificates will be obtained.
