Laws Trends | Gulf standard updates, some vehicles may not be able to clear customs and register properly

2024-12-12

1、 Kuwait Customs Clearance Requirements

Recently, WANVE learned that some vehicle manufacturers exporting to Kuwait are experiencing difficulties in customs clearance and registration.

According to communication and understanding between WANVE and GSO officials, the main reason for the Kuwaiti market is that GSO has released a new system to track vehicle VIN. Only when the manufacturer uploads the corresponding VIN and activates it in the GSO system, will Kuwait's customs display the certificate and vehicle information, and complete customs clearance and registration.

GSO has issued notices more than once this year, requiring manufacturers to upload and activate their VIN in a timely manner. Failure to upload in a timely manner may result in the GCC account being indefinitely suspended, and certificates cannot be applied for during the suspension period.

2、 UAE eCall Regulations Update

In addition, the eCall regulations in the United Arab Emirates are derived from UAE S 5019: Updated to UAE in 2018 S 5019: 2024 version. In the 2018 version, vehicles with a GVW not exceeding 3500kg are required to be equipped with an eCall system, while in the 2024 version, it is only mentioned that vehicles with a GVW not exceeding 3500kg need to be equipped with an eCall system.

After communication and confirmation between WANVE and the UAE official, the 2024 version requires curb weight, which will mainly affect some ultra heavy electric passenger vehicles, light trucks, light buses and other models. New models with curb weight not exceeding 3500kg will need to be equipped with e-call system (existing models are not affected).
